Jeffy and his high school friends came to Yilan with beautiful mountains and rivers again. Following the last time we paddled a canoe to explore Yilan Dongao, this time we chose a more exciting land-based activity -Off-Road ATVs, a great experience for a group of boys! With several different terrains, ride all the way to Dong'ao Beach. Although I usually ride a motorcycle, this ride feels completely different! This time, we pre-booked the ATV activity through Klook. There are 150c.c. and 300c.c. There are two kinds of ATVs to choose from. Because almost all of our team members are new to ATVs, we chose the 150c.c. which is more friendly to the people. The experience time includes about an hour of teaching, which is very suitable for placement between trips in Eastern Australia.

Yilan ATV Experience｜Transportation

The store Klook cooperated with this time is a camp located in Nan’ao Township – Dongyue Camp, a large area of green space, looking at the refreshing mountains, the pleasant environment makes people want to live here for a day! There are two ways to get there:

Take the train

After taking the train to Dongao Railway Station, walk along Suhua Highway to the end and then turn left to arrive. The journey takes about 15 minutes.

Drive by yourself

Navigate to "Dongyue Camp”, or “No. 5-1, Lane 1, Section 5, Suhua Road, Nan’ao Township, Yilan County”, and cars can park in the open space in the camp.

Yilan ATV Experience | What is ATV?

The full name of ATV is All Terrain Vehicle, which is an all-terrain off-road vehicle, also known as a three-wheel/quad motorcycle. It can be ridden on special terrains such as asphalt road, muddy ground, and beach. Jeffy's first experience with ATV was when he was in Boracay. He rode an off-road vehicle all the way from the bottom of the mountain to the top of the mountain, and also shook all the way to the top of the mountain. At that time, the feeling of ATV was only "so primitive", but this time I came to Yilan Play, the riding terrain is richer, there are sloping up and down slopes along the way, there is also a big pothole to move forward at full speed, and the unique wooded terrain in the camp, with the water column sprayed from time to time, seems to be riding in the wet tropics. In the rainforest!

Yilan ATV Experience | Pre-departure Teaching

Before departure, the coach will play a short instructional video to explain the little skills when riding the ATV, such as the simple operation and matching of acceleration and braking. When the ATV is turning, you need to turn the faucet to the end, instead of pressing the car, you must step on the pedal all the way, and avoid placing your feet outside the ATV. Because most people who ride ATVs may have ridden motorcycles, and it is easy to bring the riding habits of motorcycles, special attention is needed to avoid injury~

After completing the oral teaching, the group first tried riding on the grounds in the camp area, and only left the camp area after everyone was familiar with it. There are some extremely rugged terrains in the training ground. When riding a motorcycle, you will deliberately avoid these potholes, but riding an ATV is too heavy. You don't need to avoid complex terrain. That's right~

Yilan ATV Experience | Riding Route

After a simple exercise, we set off from the camp and went through the gentle asphalt road to the Dongao Beach. The coach will lead the whole group to various terrains near the beach. There are special terrains such as a large area of pools, steep downhills, and rugged stone roads. I feel that the tires will be worn out!

Among them, we like the terrain of the pool the most. At that time, the team was in a row, and the coach informed everyone by sending a message backward. When the person in front said, "Wait for a while, press the accelerator to the end, don't brake." It's crooked 😂 Later, I found out that the pool has to move forward at full speed and let the water splash to be fun!

The last group of people stayed on the beach of Dong'ao for a few minutes, basking in the sun and taking pictures. The scenery here is really beautiful. Along the coastline, the blue waters and emerald green mountains come into view. Because the ATV vibrates a lot, it is not recommended to bring a camera during the experience. The coach here will also enthusiastically help you take pictures, so don't worry about not having a group photo!

Precautions for ATV ATVs can be prepared in advance:

• Along the way through a lot of watery terrain, slippers or waterproof shoes are strongly recommended
• You will get wet, so bring a set of clothes to change
• It is not recommended to carry electronic products that are not shock-resistant or that are afraid of falling when the ATV is full of shocks
• When passing through the puddle, the splashed water will splash on the engine, and hot steam will be generated in the middle of the thigh, be careful of burns
